The seventh and final river cleanup event of 2017 takes place Saturday in Lockport Township.
The St. Joseph County Conservation District is seeking volunteers to assist with the most ambitious of this summer’s cleanup events. It is asking prospective volunteers to register in advance so an accurate number of kayaks, canoes and lunches can be reserved.
Saturday’s cleanup will focus on two separate stretches of the Prairie River. The first team will start at Covered Bridge Park at the north end of Centreville and work the four-mile route to Hoshel Canoe Camp. The second team will start at the Hoshel Road site and cover a 4 1/2-mile stretch to Lutz Road.
Start time is 9:30 a.m. and prospective participants may bring their own kayak or canoe if they prefer.
For more information or to make a reservation, the conservation district can be reached at 467-6336, ext. 5. Prospective participants in need of a watercraft must register by noon Friday.
