James Walter Tullos, age 84, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 27, 2016, at Life Care Center of Las Vegas in Las Vegas.
He was born April 6, 1932, in Mississippi, a son of the late Leslie and Johnnie (Caulwell) Tullos.
Jim resided in Sturgis since 1953, coming from Mississippi. On Sept. 20, 1955, he married Jean Dingman in White Pigeon.
He retired in 1994 from White Pigeon Paper Company following more than 30 years of dedicated employment.
Jim was proud and honored to have served his country in the U.S. Air Force, earning the rank of airman second class. He was a Life Member of Capt. John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and was a longtime member of Gateway Twirlers Square Dance Club. Jim enjoyed bowling and for many years was a league bowler at White Pigeon Bowl. He also enjoyed playing golf and traveling with Jean throughout the United States.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of nearly 61 years, Jean; three daughters, Carol Coburn of Sturgis, Terri Hoyt of North Las Vegas, Nev., and Lisa (Terry) Adams of Sturgis; three sons, Walter Tullos of Sturgis, Donald (Tracey) Tullos of Las Vegas, N.M., and Larry (Ann) Tullos of Newkirk, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Alice) Tullos of LaGrange, Ind.; a sister, Martha Keasey of Tucson, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Rickie Hoyt; a granddaughter; two sisters; and seven brothers.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.
Funeral services celebrating the life of James W. Tullos will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Randy Evans of New Beginnings Church will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at White Pigeon Township Cemetery in White Pigeon, where full military honors will be conferred by Capt. John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW.

John L. Hostetler, age 68, of Colon, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family, after several months of failing health.
John was born June l5, 1948, in Sturgis, a son of Levi and Edna (Hochstetler) Hostetler.
John had served in the U.S. Army.
He had made his home in the Colon area for the past 40 some years and was a member of Light and Life Wesleyan Church of Three Rivers.
On July 31, 1999, he married Sheila (Barker) Ashcraft in Crown Point, Ind.
John had worked in sales and marketing in the RV industry, working for Viking in Centreville and Palomino in Colon and also had worked for Hammer Transportation in Bristol, Ind.
John enjoyed fishing and golfing with his three sons. John also volunteered at Colon Food Pantry.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Hostetler, of Colon; three sons, David (Christine) Hostetler of Colon, Jonathon (Michele) Hostetler of Colon and Jared (Jennifer) Hostetler of San Jose, Calif.; two stepchildren, Brian Ashcraft, of Camby, Ind., and Stephanie (Andrew) Born of Lowell, Ind.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; his mother, Edna Hostetler of LaGrange, Ind.; two brothers, Jerry (Debbie) Hostetler of Colon and Fritz (Nancy) Hostetler of LaGrange, Ind.; four sisters, Ruby (LeVerne) Yoder of LaGrange, Ind., Esther (Jerry) Miller of Shipshewana, Ind., Rosie Hostetler of LaGrange, Ind., and Arlene (LaVern) Miller of Middlebury, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Levi Hostetler; and a brother, Crist Hostetler.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of John L. Hostetler will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at the funeral home, with Pastor Sam Maddox officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.

Arthur E. (Bud) West, age 91, of Colon, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Bud was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Colon, a son to the late Lawrence and Sarah (Slagle) West.
He had made his home in Colon all his life, graduating from Colon High School with the class of 1942. Bud served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the North Atlantic on a submarine chaser and South Pacific on a mine sweeper. He was honorably discharged Oct. 1, 1945.
On March 8, 1944, he married Nancy Murphy in Three Rivers.
Bud had worked as a woodworker in the manufacturing department for 50-plus years for Abbott’s Magic Company in Colon. He was a 55-year member of Colon American Legion Post #454.
Bud enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Nancy West of Colon; a son, Patrick (Rolene) West of Colon; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David and James West; two brothers, Jack and Paul (Buff) West; and two infant great-granddaughters, Lyndsay and Leah West.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.

Jerry D. Fair, age 68, of Marcellus, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 27, 2016, at his home.
He was born July 5, 1948, in Sturgis, a son of the late LeRoy and Beulah Marjorie (Draime) Fair.
Jerry resided in Marcellus since 1994, coming from White Pigeon, and his early life was lived in Sturgis.
Much of Jerry’s working life was spent as a supervisor in the folding carton industry. He also owned and operated a power wash business for several years and with his son installed automatic car washes.
He was a member of Faith Bible Church in Jones, where he was a past board member.
Jerry was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of corporal. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved riding motorcycles.
He is survived by three sons, Mark Fair of Three Rivers, Eric (Jennifer) Fair of Marcellus and Clint Fair of Jones; four grandchildren, Bryan Fair, Kristina (James) Baker, David Stiles and Sabrina Fair; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Fair, Konnar Fair and Elijah Eckert; three sisters, Velma Raver of Ypsilanti, Dorothy (George R.) Morris of Howe, Ind., and Judy Baldwin of California; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Doris Garlets, Lois Fair, Edith Harker, Barbara Davis and Mary Lou Stetler; and three brothers, Robert Fair, Leo Fair and Paul Fair.

Glen Darrel Frederick, age 62, of Three Rivers, passed away early Wednesday morning, Aug. 31, 2016, at Heartland Health Care Center in Three Rivers.
He was born Feb. 13, 1954, in Three Rivers, a son of the late Robert Louis and Betty (Davis) Frederick.
Darrel resided most of his life in Three Rivers and had been employed by Chenoweth Roofing in Three Rivers for several years.
He was a past member of Three Rivers Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing his guitar and loved playing cards with his friends.
He is survived by a son, Luke (Karrie) Frederick of Centreville; a daughter, Lori Cassandra Frederick of Sturgis; six grandchildren, Trevor Burks, Miriah Burks, Robbie Frederick, Drew Frederick, Victoria Frederick and Xander Frederick; and two brothers, Roger Frederick and Mike Frederick.

Joyce Catherine Keller, age 75, of Three Rivers died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born in Chicago on April 15, 1941 the daughter of William F. and Catherine (Callopy) Schabes. As a girl the family resided in Mendon before returning to Chicago. She was married to Wayne Sill, Sr. in 1962. He died in 1970, and she returned to Michigan. She was married to Henry Keller in 1979 and they were later divorced. Joyce was a homemaker, who also worked as a bartender at the former Beehive in Three Rivers. She enjoyed watching old movies, crime shows, and game shows on TV.
Joyce is survived by four children, Wayne Sill, Jr of Kalamazoo, Mark Sill of Battle Creek, Debra Mains and Christine Mongar both of Holland; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Schabes of Sturgis; sister in law, Barbara Mitchell; brother in law, Eldon Jackson; and special friend, Darla Ryan. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Joanne Jackson and Carol Ann McCarroll; two brothers, Jack Schabes and Bill Schabes; and a grandson, Glen Sill.
A memorial service will be at 11 am Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at the Crossroads Missionary Church, 22605 M-60, Mendon with Pastor Bryan Balasa officiating. Elwyn “Grandpa Bibs” Shugars, age 84, of Marcellus, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at his family home.
He was born June 15, 1932, in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Elton and Jessie (Nesbitt) Shugars. In 1952, he married Martha L. Medd who survives.
Elwyn was a lifelong resident of Porter Township. He was well known in the community as a farmer and local businessman. He was an active member of government at the local level and served as the Porter Township Treasurer for 28 years. Farming was the way of life for Elwyn. He was a third generation farmer and never had the heart or desire to ever retire. He will always be remembered for his dedication to the fields and commitment to making the most of each day. Along with farming, Elwyn loved his time spent with family. He was so very proud of them and could always count on daily morning gatherings around the kitchen table discussing the happenings of yesterday and the day to come.
Surviving besides his wife Martha of 54 years are four children, Scott (Kathy) Shugars, Kay (Jeff) Klein, Jay (Lynn) Shugars and Patricia Shugars all of Marcellus; four grandsons, Tim (Katrina) Klein, Nicholas (Renee) Seeyle, Brandon Shugars and Devan Shugars; three granddaughters, Brooke (Matt) Osbeck, Shelby (Chad) Earl, and Bryn Shugars; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Andrew.

Leslie Clyde “Droopy” Schrader Jr., age 55, of Kalamazoo, and a former longtime Colon resident, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 6, 2016, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
He was born July 2, 1961, in Sturgis, a son of Leslie and Kathie (Shear) Schrader.
Les resided in Kalamazoo for the past six months. The rest of his life was spent in Colon and he was a graduate of Colon High School with the class of 1980.
Les was a skilled mechanic by trade and had been employed by Tuffy Tire and Auto Service Center in Sturgis for many years.
Les had a passion for stock car racing and for many years drove at area tracks, including Mottville and Galesburg Motor Speedways. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and attending rallies and events. Les loved time spent with his family and many friends and found his greatest joy in making others happy.
The family would like to like to take a moment to extend a special thanks to Ronda Flowers for the care and love her and her family extended to Les.
He is survived by his mother, Kathie Schrader of Colon; four sisters:, Vicky (Mike) Ross of Bronson, Amy Hoffer of Ohio, Vayette (Mitch) Becker of Constantine and Tammy Whitting of Colon; a brother, Randy Schrader of Sturgis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including his cousin Ronda Flowers of Kalamazoo and special friend Rob Benash of Colon.

Bob was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Sturgis, a son of William J. and Mary B. (McLatcher) Roach.
He had lived all his life in the Sherwood and Colon area, graduating from Colon High School with the class of 1959.
In 1974, Bob married Carolyn S. Ash.
Bob had worked for and retired from the former Kirsch Company in Sturgis. He was a member of Colon United Methodist Church and Colon Masonic Lodge #73. He had a love for sports, enjoyed gardening and time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Roach, of Colon; children Ronda Dell of Angola, Ind., Amy Roach of Portage, Richard Roach of Portage and Shannon (Alain) Calixte of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; his mother, Mary B. Roach of Sherwood; a sister, Nancy Wall of Sherwood; a brother, Jerry Roach of Sherwood; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Spearow; two infant daughters, Mary and Terri; two brothers, Larry and Ron Roach; and his father, William J. Roach.

Jack Richard Troyer, age 67, of Three Rivers, formerly of Mishawaka, IN., passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at his home. He was born on July 19, 1949 in South Bend, IN., the son of the late Jimmiedale and Mary Jane (Riley) Troyer.
Jack was united in marriage to the love of his life Mrs. Mary Alice Carlton, on June of 1970. Together they spent many happy years in Mishawaka before moving to Three Rivers in 1989. Jack was employed as a service manager for many years.
Jack was an avid race car fan. He belonged to the Michiana Vintage Race Club. He loved trains and Christmas Holiday’s with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Joann Troyer.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife of 46 years, Mary (Carlton) Troyer; two children, Shelli (Jerry) Burks, of Cassopolis, MI., and David (Amanda) Troyer, of Jackson, MI.; step mother, Betty Troyer; two brothers, Jim (Angie) Troyer, of Mishawaka, IN., and Jon (Donna) Troyer, of Elkhart, In.; one sister, Janet “Sue” (Bill) Mason, of Mishawaka, IN.; five grandchildren, D.J., Cole, and Emma Troyer, and Ryli, and Tori Burks .

Alverta E. Preston, age 84, of Constantine, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Bowman Place, Three Rivers. She was born in Sherman Township on July 18, 1932, a daughter of Fletcher and Anna (Dennis) Mercer. Alverta graduated from Constantine High School in 1950. On July 28, 1950, she married Roy A. Preston at the Constantine Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1998. Alverta was a secretary at Constantine Middle School for 20+ years. She also volunteered at Constantine High School Athletic Events and Three Rivers Hospital. Alverta enjoyed going to casinos and playing bingo every Tuesday night at the Constantine American Legion.
She is survived by five sons, David (Michelle) Preston of White Pigeon, Larry (Cindy) Preston of Three Rivers, Bruce (Sandy) Preston of Jones, Frank Preston of Bismark, AR, and Paul (Holly) Preston of Chelsea, AL; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her special dog Jenny. Preceding Alverta in death were her parents, husband, brothers Edgar “Sam” Mercer and Jess Williard Mercer, sisters Irene, Eula, Mary Altona, Vernetha, and Geneva; and grandsons Darin and Joshua.

Robert Fellows, 94, of Centreville.
Whenever you asked Bob how he was doing, he always replied, “I’m still kicking”. Well, he departed Fairview Nursing & Rehabilitation on Friday, September 9, 2016 and now he’s “still kicking” with his Savior Jesus.
Bob was born Charles Wright, in South Bend, Indiana, on 4-29-1922, to Harry and Florence Wright. Five months later, he was given up for adoption and placed in an orphanage in Mishawaka, Indiana. In May of 1923, he was adopted to Myron and Mae Fellows and his name was changed to Robert. Bob grew up on the family farm on M-86, just outside of Three Rivers. He graduated high school in 1940 and joined the Navy in October of that year. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Jeanne Young on 10-29-1949 in Angola, Indiana. They moved to Wayland, and he went to work for Standard Oil. He later went into business for himself and worked at various jobs until moving to Big Fish Lake in 1967. He became a custodian at Centreville Schools and worked with his brother-in-law, Howard Young and his dear friend, Roger Hart. He retired in 1985.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanne, a daughter, Connie Harter of Centreville, a son, Bob (Sue) Fellows of Centreville, a grandson, Matthew (Sara) Fellows of Portage, a niece, Bonnie Smith and a nephew, Harold Pharoah, Jr. He also leaves behind several adoptive nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his birth parents, his adoptive parents, his birth brother Harold Pharoah, his birth sister Joan Smith, and his adoptive brothers, Lawrence Fellows and Richard Drumm and his adoptive sisters, Lois Howe, Ann Follis, and Marie Kritch.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held Monday at 3pm in Prairie River Cemetery, Centreville, with Pastor David Grimm officiating. Jessie L. (Skip) Perry, age 76, of White Pigeon, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at her home in Mottville after a long battle with COPD and rheumatoid arthritis. She was lovingly cared for at home for the past many years by her devoted husband, Dennis. Mrs. Perry was born on February 8, 1940, in North Branch, Michigan to Fred and Bessie (Lewis) Rossman. She attended school in North Branch, Michigan through high school and married Wilbert (Hank) George in 1958. They divorced in 1975, and Skip moved to Middlebury, Indiana to work for Coachmen. She met the love of her life, Dennis R. Perry, they were married on November 24, 1976. A devoted wife and mother, she remained at home teaching sewing and raising three sons until going to work at Skamper and Glaval after they were grown.
A proud wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 40 years, Dennis R. Perry, their children, David Perry of Marcellus, Douglas (Lisa) Perry of White Pigeon, and Dennis C. (Jennifer) Perry of White Pig eon. Also surviving are her grandchildren Jason (Kourtney) Perry, Jolene (Mike) Tartaglia, Dalyn Perry (O. J. Jones), Brooke (Corey) Huff, Logan and Wyatt Perry; and great grandchildren, Axel, Eli, Carter, Jacob, Martin, Mia, and very soon, Oslynn. She is survived by her father-in-law, Carl (Mary Jeanne) Perry; siblings, Austin (Fran), Harvey (Sue), Douglas (Roxanna), Cindy (Gary) Hoskins, and Robert (Karen); sister-in-law, Debbie (Steve) Quinn, and Michael (Cindy) Perry; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Shirley M. Blum, age 92, of Three Rivers passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at The Bowman Place of Three Rivers. She was born on January 28, 1924 in Three Rivers, MI the daughter of James William and Treva (Jors) Brycoft.
Shirley graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1942. On December 17, 1943 she was united in marriage to Earl R. Blum.
Music was an important part of Shirley’s life and she surrounded herself with all varieties. She sang professionally during her teenage years and sang in “The Messiah” at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall as a member of the Swedish Choral Club in 1942.
She was employed as a bookkeeper for Rifenberg Insurance, Stroud Bookkeeping, and Clifton Engineering. She also worked for H & R Block. When she returned to Three Rivers in 1959, she joined St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and served actively in all aspects of the church. She also belonged to B.P.W., Three Rivers Women’s Club, and was very involved with the Carnegie Center of Three Rivers, where she served as a board member. She supported many other community groups and projects.
Shirley was devoted to her Savior, family, church, friends, and community. She dedicated herself and her spare time to making lasting friendships and will be missed by all who were touched by her generosity and commitment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Earl R. Blum, infant son, Raymond Blum, sister, Muriel Brody, and brother, James Bycroft
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Connie (Bob) Bibee of TN; son, Jeff (Judy) Blum of Centreville; grandson, Corey (Summer) Pant; great grandchildren, Pierce, Johnathan, Lauren, and Bella; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until time of services beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Three Rivers with Pastor Bob Bartz officiating.
Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers.

Mr. Ralph Dean Haag, age 85, of Marcellus, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Grace Riverview Manor. He was born on Oct. 1, 1930 in Mongo, IN., the son of the late William Harley and Edna Bell (Gochenhaur) Haag.
On Sept. 20th, 1956 Dean was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dolores. He was employed as a certified truck driver for over 35 years with Weiss Trucking Company in Mongo, IN. Dean loved to hunt and fish, work in his garden, and most of all, Dean cherished his time with family especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his constant canine companion, Jake. He served in the United States Army with the 804th Battalion in Germany, Indiana and Michigan. He was a member of the Grand Valley Cap N Ballers Muzzle Loader Group. He was also a member of The American Legion Post # 170.
Mr. Haag was preceded in death by twin infants, Randy Dean and Kandy Jean Haag; brothers, Harley, Delbert and Burdette Haag; sisters, Ruth Haag, Laurine Myers, Dorothy Devlin, Doris Harker, Margie Day, and Jean Frutig,
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving family, wife Dolores (Greenwalt) Haag, of Marcellus; two daughters, Tina (David) Thornburgh and Sherri Haag; two sons, Larry Haag and Jeff (Yvonne) Haag, all of Marcellus; grandchildren, Eric (Kaley)Thornburgh, Lanee Thornburgh, Matt (Brean) Haag , Corey (Trista) Haag, Brei Ann (Scott Collins) Haag, Lance (Heather McComas) Haag, Jody Carpenter, Jason Welburn, Stefany Thornburgh, and JaLisa Poindexter; great grandchildren, Carter, Cole, Ella and Eli Thornburgh, Rhylee and Karlee Welburn, Devyn Hempel and Lita Mae Collins, Madison and Logyn Haag, Peyton Gibson, Jackson Haag, Jayden Haag, Kirsten and Jade Eby; sisters, Janet Miller, Jeanette Sisson, and Phyllis Wilson; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Hohner Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Hohner Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Wiggins of the Edwards Corners Bible Church where Dean attended.
Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the American Legion Post #170 following services.
